Attitudes are the values and perceptions held about family-school relationships. Some essential beliefs and attitudes that C&C mentors should demonstrate include:
Believing that families are doing the best they can
Taking nonjudgmental, non-blaming approaches
Knowing that families care about their children’s education
Refusing to give up on a family or a student
Treating families as collaborators in the educational process, remembering that families are the experts on their children
The level of family participation in school will vary and is influenced by many factors; it is the mentor’s role to provide information and resources to support family participation.
