Community Living: A 30-year story

This free video and book tell the 30-year story of how people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (ID/DD) have lived, worked, and received support services as the United States transitioned away from institutional care. It contains facts, charts, and personal stories from three longitudinal data projects of national significance, reported to the Administration on Community Living.

Data Informed Accessibility - Making Optimal Needs-based Decisions (DIAMOND)

This project , a collaboration of nine state education departments and the National Center on Educational Outcomes, aims to improve the validity of assessment results and interpretations for students with documented needs by developing guidelines for making informed decisions about accessibility features and accommodations.

Recruiting, Selecting, and Retaining Direct Service Workers to Provide Self-Directed HCBS

The learning modules address key skills and competencies for individuals who self-direct HCBS and for direct service workers. The modules draw from self-direction training in use in the field and align with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) set of core competencies.

Parent Resource Videos

The TIES Center and National Center on Educational Outcomes (NCEO) Parent Video Series: Supporting the Learning of Children with Significant Cognitive Disabilities at Home supports families in understanding the important role that they have in teaching their children. The series offers ideas for how to support learning at home. Each video focuses on three key questions: Why is it important to focus on this with my child at home? How can I do this at home? What support can I ask for from my child’s school?

Policy Research Briefs

This ongoing series of briefs summarizes recent research on a range of policy issues affecting persons with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. They are produced by the Research and Training Center on Community Living at the Institute on Community Integration. Policy Forum is a web-based presentation and facilitated discussion series exploring the most recent issue in the Policy Research Brief series.

Readiness Tool: A Guide for Exploring Check & Connect at Your Site

This self-paced online learning module is designed for leadership teams to learn more about Check & Connect and evaluate their site’s need, fit, and capacity to implement the program, an intervention for students showing warning signs of disengagement with school who are at risk of dropping out.

TIES Inclusive Practice Series

This series is designed to share practical information, ideas, and strategies to support inclusive education in the classroom. Examples include ways to remove barriers so that students with the most significant cognitive disabilities can engage in collaborative learning with their peers.

Inclusive Education Roadmap

The Inclusive Education Roadmap (IER) was created to support systemic change that provides an inclusive education for every student. This roadmap walks education leaders through the process, from assessing current resources to building a sustainable action plan.

Frontline Initiative

A biannual newsletter covering the issues important to direct support professionals and supervisors who support people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and other disabilities in a variety of community settings. Each issue contains resources, perspectives, and strategies to advance the profession of direct support. Published by the Institute on Community Integration in partnership with the National Alliance for Direct Support Professionals.

National Center for College Students with Disabilities (NCCSD)

The NCCSD is the only federally-funded national center in the United States with information and resources for future and current college students with disabilities, including those in part-time programs and graduate students. At this site, users can access the NCCSD Clearing House, with information on finding a college, paying for college, handling problems at school, and more.

Report: The Prevalence and Characteristics of Children with Profound Autism

This report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shares population-based surveillance data from the Autism and Developmental Disabilities Monitoring Network. The data show the percentage of 8-year-old children with profound autism among those with autism is 26.7%, among other results.
