Data Driven Decision Making

The process of measuring, analyzing, communicating, and taking action, when appropriate, with the goal of improving the quality of Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) is referred to as data-driven decision making in HCBS.

Measurement results are used to make decisions and act in ways to improve the services or programming of the organization.

Decisions could include:

  • Actions or changes to improve the quality/outcomes of services
    • Changing an organization’s policies
    • Requesting additional funding to improve service
  • Maintaining current practice(s) based on the data
    • Continuing to measure or measuring new areas to gather more information
    • Deciding results meet the standards and not making changes to a service program
