Example of guiding question development:

• Topic: Employment and persons with disabilities
• Initial guiding question: What is the employment rate of persons with disabilities?
• Refined (specific) guiding question: Is there a significant difference in employment rates between persons with and without disabilities?

Keep in mind you may need to make the question more specific (further refine) to be able to answer critical questions for which you have an interest. For example, you may need to define types of employment or disability in which you have an interest.
