How Data Can Answer Your Guiding Question(s)
Here are a few ways data can be used to answer questions:
- Counting, including frequencies or raw counts that can answer questions, such as “How many people with intellectual disabilities were employed in the U.S. more than 35 hours a week in 2019?”
- Ratios, including percentages, rates, proportions can answer questions, such as “What percentage of people with intellectual disabilities in the U.S. were employed more than 35 hours a week in 2019?”
- Comparisons, including comparisons between groups can answer questions, such as “what is the difference in employment rates for those with and those without disabilities?”
- Tracking change, including calculating change in percentage can answer questions that explore variations over time. For example, “has the percentage of people with disabilities employed more than 35 hours a week increased in the last 10 years and by how much?”
