RTC/OM HCBS Measurement Education Modules

Sampling Review

In Module 5 which focused on Introduction to Sampling you learned that:

  • A sample is a group of individuals selected from the target population to be measured.
  • A representative sample of sufficient size reduces the need for measuring all members of the population.
  • Many factors should be considered when developing a sample.

The goal of sampling is to select a group of participants who closely represent the characteristics of the target population (representative sample).

  • A representative sample increases our ability to use measurement results to make inferences about the rest of the target population (generalizability).
