Cognitive Engagement
Discuss how school contributes to achieving their personal goals.
Teach methods of self-regulation to maintain effort on a task, including connecting the task to the student’s goals.
Discuss with the student the role of effort and personal choice in achieving goals.
Affective Engagement
Support the student’s teachers to increase relationships with the student, giving appropriate insights and suggesting techniques.
Help the student develop social skills and connect to school activities or clubs of interest to them.
Work with parents/guardians to increase their engagement in school to support student goals.
