Lakin Receives Achievement Award
K. Charlie Lakin, former director of the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research, received the Outstanding Achievement Award in June, the University of Minnesota’s highest alumni honor. Over more than 30 years, Lakin helped to shape ICI as a beacon of research and training to improve the quality of services for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. At ICI, he led the Research and Training Center on Community Living and was Impact’s first editor.
“Much of what we learned from Charlie is ingrained in the soul and the organizational culture of ICI today, and for that I am forever thankful,” said ICI Director Amy Hewitt.
