Getting started with telehealth for early intervention: Learning modules

What is ‘free play’

Father and child playing with blocks.

Free play is setting up a timespan with you and your child (and your provider virtual) where your child has access to things that they enjoy and where we do not place any demands on your child.

View this brief video demonstrating a Free play session.

The clip is short, this full free play session lasted for 5 minutes.

The child has access to the toys and tablet games that they prefer.

The parent is available to the child, but is not restricting the child from the materials (meaning that the parent does not take away the toys, does not try to pause the Ipad game, and does not indicate that the child needs to share).

While the parent may talk with their child, they are not telling their child to do things.
