People in large state-operated facilities in FY 2019

This graphic has four maps showing the number of people in large state-run IDD facilities by state. On June 30, 2019, there were 16,200 people with IDD living in 112 state-run IDD facilities of 16 or more people in 33 states. The top-left map shows 18 states highlighted in yellow that did not have any state-run IDD facilities of 16 or more people on June 30, 2019. These states are Alabama, Alaska, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Idaho, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Oregon, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Vermont, and West Virginia. The top-right map shows 22 states highlighted in yellow that had between 16 and 499 people living in state-run IDD facilities of 16 or more people. These are Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New York, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Utah, Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. The bottom-left map shows seven states highlighted in red that had between 500 and 999 people living in state-run IDD facilities of 16 or more people. The states are Arkansas, Florida, Mississippi, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South, Carolina, and Washington. The bottom-right map shows four states between 1,000 and 2,915 people lived in state-run IDD facilities of 16 or more people. These states are Illinois, New Jersey, North Carolina, and Texas.

By 2019, there were 16,200 people with IDD living in 112 state-run facilities in 33 states.
