In 2019, of the 2.1 million adults with IDD in the United States, 1,149,061, or 54% of all adults with IDD, were not known to state IDD agencies. Of those known to state IDD agencies, 689,647 adults with IDD, or 71% received services by a Medicaid HCBS waiver, 62,032 lived in an Intermediate Care Facility for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities, 120,940 received services from other funding sources and 90,586 did not receive publicly funded long-term support or services.

Less than half of adults with IDD were known to state IDD agencies on June 30, 2019. Of those known to state agencies, 71% received LTSS funded by a Medicaid HCBS Waiver.
