Recruiting, Selecting, and Retaining Direct Service Workers to Provide Self-Directed HCBS
What Will I Learn in These Modules?
The learning modules address key skills and competencies both for individuals who self-direct HCBS and the skills they want their direct service workers (DSW) to demonstrate. The learning modules draw from self-direction training already in use in the field and align with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) set of core competencies for HCBS DSWs. Also, competencies that align with the knowledge, skill, and abilities an individual who directs their own services and supports might need when supervising DSWs were identified from the National Frontline Supervisor Competencies. These competencies are an evidence-based set of knowledge, skills, and abilities that reflect best practice in the supervision of DSWs who work with individuals with disabilities in residential, work, and community settings.
