Consider Having Someone You Trust Participate in the Interview

While some individuals who self-direct services become the legal employer of their DSWs, this is not the case in all self-direction models. Check with your service coordinator and financial management services agency if you have questions about how your self-direction model is structured or your responsibilities in managing services.

You may want to have someone who is important to you present during interviews. This might be a family member, an authorized representative, or a service coordinator. Having someone who you trust to help you make choices can help with the decision about who to hire. This person can also take notes for you so that you can focus on the interview.
