RISP State Profiles FY 2020
Tips for using interactive charts
The interactive charts we use to display data in our RISP State Profiles have a number of excellent features that might not be immediately obvious. We think you'll find them very useful as you think about and use the information displayed within. We've listed the most interesting features below along with instructional images of where to find them (we've included some directional hints for visitors with vision challenges using screen-reading software.)
- We think the feature you'll find most immediately useful is the data detail panel that shows when you hover your mouse over (or direct your keyboard focus to) chart elements like bars and data points. You can for example see a detailed breakdown of all the components in a stacked bar chart (figure 1).
- Most of the features we want to draw your attention to are found in the interactive chart menu (figure 2). Press the chart menu button to show/hide the list of options.
- View in full screen: expand the chart to fill your screen.
- Print chart: print the chart to paper
- Download the chart as a PNG, JPEG, or SVG vector image. Pro tip: Download the SVG image if you want the highest quality result when you need to resize the image to fit into something like a presentation slide!
- For the data folks in the audience, you can download the data behind each chart in CSV, and XLS formats.
- View data table: See a table of the data behind each chart right away (it will show up just below the chart itself)
- Click items in the chart legend to toggle them from the chart display, helping you to focus on the parts most important to you.
